The forest resources on the territory of the park comprise 80,2% of its total area. The main part of it takes the beech (60%). It is main tree
species and forms interesting plant co-communities such as beech-woodrush, beech-asperule, beech-mountain ash, beech-laurelcherry, beech-whortleberry, beech-water hornbeam and some unique habitats: beech-yew- laurelcherry, beech-holly-moss, beech-dendriform hazel. Of plants that are included in the Red Book of the Republic of Bulgaria on the territory of the park are mountain great maple, holly, yew, Atropa bella-donna, Veronica jaquinii ssp. neiceffii, Haberlea rhodopensis, Daphne blagayana, Daphne cneorum, Saxifraga marginata, Rhynchocorus elephas, Cynoglossum germanicum, Kernera saxatilis, Goodyera repens various representatives of Orchidaceae, etc. The territory of the park is also extremely rich in medicinal plants.
According to the zoo-geographical zoning, the territory of the park falls into the zone of European fauna – the region of Balkan Mountain. Forests and subalpine pastures are inhabited by a great number of invertebrates and vertebrates. Representatives of birds are golden eagle, lesser spotted eagle, woodcock, stock pigeon, black woodpecker, south white-backed woodpecker, species included in the Red Book of the Republic of Bulgaria. The old beech forests are inhabited by martens, wolves and bears. Representatives of the big mammals are red deer, roe, boar, badger, jackal, fox etc.
The park is a home of a lot of representatives of the invertebrate fauna.
